Cinephile! On this week’s episode of the BIG FRED TUESDAY, I bring you interviews with director Bruno Gascon and actress Ana Moreira, who worked together on Sombra. This is a new Portuguese film that revolves around a mother whose child was kidnapped and the trauma she experiences in the years following the event, as she struggles to get any help from the institutions. Sombra recently premiered at the Barcelona Film Festival.
I also spoke with Guido Hendrikx about his new documentary, A Man and a Camera. This is a provocative work that finds him approaching people and silently pointing a camera at them. The reactions he solicits are surprising and thought-provoking. The film is premiering at CPH:DOX in Denmark.
For my recurring Dictionary of Film segments, I talked about “genre” in movies and for my Popcorn Classic segment, I chose to celebrate Elaine May’s 1971 cult classic A New Leaf, which to me is totally underrated and should be rediscovered. Stay cinephile!
