JAZZIZ Travel #4: Min Xiao-Fen

In my new JAZZIZ Travel podcast for JAZZIZ Magazine, I spoke with Min Xiao-Fen, one of the world’s most innovative pipa players. The pipa is a key instrument of the Chinese music tradition and upon moving to the United States in the mid-’90s, she began to forge a new path for it in modern jazz, free improvisation and contemporary music. Her forthcoming release is a collaboration with guitarist Rez Abbasi and an original score she wrote for the seminal early Chinese film, The Goddess from 1934. The album is titled White Lotus and out on June 25.
