Matt’s Art Chat #20: Al Lapkovsky (PODCAST)

In this episode of Matt’s Art Chat, I am joined by photographer/creative retoucher Al Lapkovsky. Al is currently based in Riga, where he has been developing a personal style and developing process he defines as “social awareness photography.” One of his pet themes is his observation of how new technologies are affecting society and our relationships with one another. These included Disconnecting Connection, a series revolving around our use of smartphones, that went viral. To find out more about Al Lapkovsky, vist his website, https://www.begemotfoto.com/.

Matt’s Art Chat #19: Darren Deeney

Breaking from the norm, here’s something a little different. While the series has so far revolved around the arts, this podcast conversation will be about working out. And it features my good friend Darren Deeney, whom I have known since Leaving Cert years in secondary school in Oranmore, Ireland.

Deeney, a.k.a. The Deenster, has recently started to live-stream his workouts from home on Instagram. But aside from his workout advice, which is valuable in these days of quarantine, the Deenster is a one-of-a-kind personality and his videos are amazingly entertaining whether you want to exercise at home or not.

Matt’s Art Chat #17: Naomi Foyle (PODCAST)

To cap off Poetry Month 2020, I recorded a conversation with poet and author Naomi Foyle, whom I met years ago at a poetry reading in Prague. Naomi recently published her latest collection of poetry titled Adamantine. She is also the writer of The Gaia Chronicles science fiction literary series.

No Matt’s Art Chat Episode for This Week

Just a quick post to notify people who have been following the series that there will not be a new episode of Matt’s Art Chat uploaded this week.

This is because of a few reasons, three of which I will mention here.

One: I am tired and I need to take a break from it. This is a personal project of mine that has nothing to do with my job aside from the fact that it too is thematically linked with the concept of art.

Two: Not one but two of the interviews that I had planned for this week fell through. This is mostly because of the quarantine period so it’s totally understandable.

Three: I want to try to upload the content on Tuesdays instead of Thursdays. While I know that none of my content is designed to be viral, in respect to the people who choose to dedicate some of their precious time to record a podcast with me, I want to see whether this will help the content get more exposure.

I already have interviews set up for the next two weeks so there will not be much to wait. In the meantime, you can go back and listen to the previous episodes of Matt’s Art Chat on:

Matt’s Art Chat #16: Lucien Zell (PODCAST)

This week’s episode of Matt’s Art Chat features a conversation with a good friend of mind: Prague-based, American-born poet Lucien Zell. In our conversation, we talk about creativity in the time of the coronavirus, recent projects and he also gives his definition for the words “soul” and “poetry.”

If you’d like to find out more about Lucien Zell, we also recorded a video for my Matt’s Long Take series around this time last year.

Matt’s Art Chat #15: Eric Pan (PODCAST)

This episode of Matt’s Art Chat is a conversation with pianist/composer Eric Pan. Eric specialises in creating music that could be termed “transportive.” In this conversation we talk about this and also discuss other topics, including some of his recent projects, the way the coronavirus outbreak has prompted him to explore alternative ways to express and communicate his creativity, and more.

Matt’s Art Chat #14: Fabio Torre (PODCAST)

On this episode of Matt’s Art Chat, I chat with Italian painter/photographer Fabio Torre. While he lives in one of the regions of the world most affected by the Coronavirus, we do not talk about COVID-19 too much.

Instead, we focus on art and particularly discuss some of his most recent projects, including a photography book he recently published about New York City’s Chelsea Hotel and a recent exhibition of his works that was held in the Big Apple.

Matt’s Art Chat #12: Chris Cipollini (PODCAST)

My new episode of Matt’s Art Chat features a conversation with Las Vegas-based poet/author and all-around creative soul, Chris Cipollini. He is actually the first person to make the second appearance on Matt’s Art Chat since I have started the series – though I took a long break before starting it again at the start of this year.

We record our conversation just a few days after the Coronavirus outbreak was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization and every country seems to slowly shut down. Because he is in the States and I am in Europe, we share our experiences of this current situation. But aside from our discussion about COVID-19, we talk about his trip to Paris, France, a few months ago, art and poetry. He even ends the call by reciting one of his very own poems.
