Matt’s Art Chat #11: Wendy Mitchell (PODCAST)

Even in times of crisis, there are two things I firmly believe in: the nobility of animals and the power of the arts. When I found out about a book that highlighted the work of doc actors, I knew that I would want to read it and that I would be interested in recording a chat with its author – film and entertainment journalist Wendy Mitchell.

The book is called Citizen Canine: Dogs in the Movies. But given her experience on the film festival scene, we also talk about her recent time at the Berlinale and how she believes the Coronavirus outbreak will impact the film festival scene and film industry at large.

Matt’s Art Chat #10: Thessa Mooij (PODCAST)

I’ve known Thessa Mooij as a publicist, working with several filmmakers, for many years. And while I have been aware of her love of music for quite some time, I recently discovered that she was working on her very first EP of her own songs. I got interested in this project and decided I would document a chat with her on the experience of recording this EP, which will be titled Six Songs and officially released sometime this year.

At the time of doing this podcast, she was in the midst of the recording process and we talked about that as well as some of the EP’s songs and the origins of her interest in rock and roll.

Matt’s Art Chat #6: Zoe Aiano

For the latest episode of my ART CHATS, I interviewed a friend of mine: documentary filmmaker Zoe Aiano. I met Zoe a few years ago at a film festival in Cluj, Romania, where I believe she was a member of the accredited press. Shortly after I met her, she started making films of her own. On this chat we talk about her latest film projects, as well as other topics, including Brexit and sex.

Matt’s Art Chat #5: Lukos Hey (PODCAST)

On my latest episode of Matt’s Art Chat I speak with Lukos Hey, Australian-born, Prague-based painter/artist. I had discussed the possibility of filming one of my Long Takes at his art studio last year. Things didn’t work out in the end but I hope to be able to film one next month when I will return to Prague. In the meantime, I thought it would be interesting to record a chat with him, so that we could get to know each other over the phone.

This chat was recorded as Hey presented some of his works in an exhibition in Prague. In this interview, we talk about his scientific approach, color, his work as an art educator and some of the stories behind some of his works.

Matt’s Art Chat #3: Matt Jordan (PODCAST)

With the new year, I decided to resume my Matt’s Art Chat format, which I experimented with last year. This is a series of recorded phone conversations I have with artists and interesting creative people, many of whom are my friends, from different parts of the world.

I could think of no better person to resume the series with than my friend, British author Matt Jordan, who recently published his new book, New Times.

You can hear/watch our conversation via the player below.

Matt was a good friend of mine from the days when I was in Prague. We had shared many conversations about the arts while there, however, we hadn’t talked for quite some time before this call.

This was another reason why I decided to call Matt for this video podcast, and here we discuss among other things, politics, Brexit, millennials v. boomers, his book and, of course, the arts.
