MATT’S ART CHAT #31 – Lachlan Goudie (PODCAST)

In this new episode of Matt’s Art Chat, the first one in a while of my series of podcast conversations about the arts, I speak with painter Lachlan Goudie.

The main topic of the conversation is his new exhibition, Once Upon a Time, which will run at The Scottish Gallery on October 28-November 25, which is inspired by fairytales and finds him expanding on his interest in landscape painting and nature. However, we also talk about the origins of his interest in art and his work as a broadcaster, as well as a major book he has published and that is titled The Story of Scottish Art.

You can listen to the podcast conversation with Lachlan Goudie via one of the players below.

Also available on Podbean and IHeartRadio.

ANIA HOBSON – Matt’s Art Chat #30 (PODCAST)

This episode of MATT’S ART CHAT features a conversation with painter Ania Hobson, a rising star of the British and international art scene. Hobson will be launching her debut solo exhibition at London’s Catto Gallery, featuring a new collection of her artworks, which will run from September 5-23.

Hobson’s work is defined by a strong, personal figurative style, blending tradition and modernity. Her works have been praised, among other things, for their fresh representation of and celebration of the “modern woman.” To find out more about her, visit her website, https://www.aniahobson.com/.

Matt’s Art Chat Is Taking a Break…

There will be no Matt’s Art Chat episode uploaded today. Reason being: the battery on my laptop blew up last night and burnt my battery charger in the process.

Luckily, the laptop itself has not been damaged and I was able to buy a new charger. But I will be using it without an actual battery for a while, depending on if and when it will be ordered.

I’m not surprised, as I have been overworking my little dell since the start of the pandemic. In the interest of safeguarding it from further damage, I will most likely cut down on some of my personal projects, especially Matt’s Art Chat.

I will hopefully be able to return with more podcasts for this series soon, as I legitimately enjoy recording conversations with art creators, curators and art lovers from all over the world, and creating a small platform for discussions about the art world at large and cultural exchange.

Meanwhile, if you’d like to listen to the previous episodes of the show, here’s a playlist on YouTube.

No Matt’s Art Chat Episode for This Week

Just a quick post to notify people who have been following the series that there will not be a new episode of Matt’s Art Chat uploaded this week.

This is because of a few reasons, three of which I will mention here.

One: I am tired and I need to take a break from it. This is a personal project of mine that has nothing to do with my job aside from the fact that it too is thematically linked with the concept of art.

Two: Not one but two of the interviews that I had planned for this week fell through. This is mostly because of the quarantine period so it’s totally understandable.

Three: I want to try to upload the content on Tuesdays instead of Thursdays. While I know that none of my content is designed to be viral, in respect to the people who choose to dedicate some of their precious time to record a podcast with me, I want to see whether this will help the content get more exposure.

I already have interviews set up for the next two weeks so there will not be much to wait. In the meantime, you can go back and listen to the previous episodes of Matt’s Art Chat on:

Matt’s Art Chat #15: Eric Pan (PODCAST)

This episode of Matt’s Art Chat is a conversation with pianist/composer Eric Pan. Eric specialises in creating music that could be termed “transportive.” In this conversation we talk about this and also discuss other topics, including some of his recent projects, the way the coronavirus outbreak has prompted him to explore alternative ways to express and communicate his creativity, and more.

Matt’s Art Chat #13: John Bleasdale (PODCAST)

My new episode of Matt’s Art Chat is a conversation with writer John Bleasdale. John is a writer of fiction and his articles on art and culture have been published on The Guardian, Il Manifesto and Sight & Sound, among other publications.

While he was born in England, he has lived most of his adult life in a small town about an hour away from Venice in Northern Italy. So, on this podcast, he shared his experience of being in one of the areas most heavily hit by the Coronavirus outbreak. We also talk about his work as a writer, focusing on his first published novel, Blood on the Grass, and more.

Matt’s Art Chat #10: Thessa Mooij (PODCAST)

I’ve known Thessa Mooij as a publicist, working with several filmmakers, for many years. And while I have been aware of her love of music for quite some time, I recently discovered that she was working on her very first EP of her own songs. I got interested in this project and decided I would document a chat with her on the experience of recording this EP, which will be titled Six Songs and officially released sometime this year.

At the time of doing this podcast, she was in the midst of the recording process and we talked about that as well as some of the EP’s songs and the origins of her interest in rock and roll.
